Chapter Info

As of January 28, 2008, the ISOC Philadelphia Area Chapter was officially recognized as a new chapter by ISOC. The ISOC Philadelphia Area Chapter was created to serve persons who live or work in Philadelphia, southeastern Pennsylvania, parts of New Jersey, and Delaware.

The ISOC Philadelphia Area Chapter is sponsored by Afilias, a domain name registry and DNS pioneer, and cable giant Comcast. These two organizations lend leadership and resources that combine a focus on the technical operation of the Internet and the needs of the Philadelphia-area community.

Purpose

"The ISOC Philadelphia Area Chapter will serve the interests of our community by providing a means of forwarding the goals of the Internet Society in our region, especially in the areas of education and training, standards and protocols and public policy.

While there are many "tech groups" in our community of interest, no existing group enables individuals and organizations to address these issues in the same manner as an ISOC Chapter.

The purpose of the chapter will be to focus on education, communication and community service, with emphasis on local implications."
